Of course, the upperclassmen were the ones with the cars. The bullies I based Steve and his friends on never actually picked on me (and I never tried to date any of their girlfriends), but the jocks especially were very threatening. They seemed to have everything - lots of friends, big blond pompadours, cool letterman jackets, cars (expensive ones too), and don't forget the babes.

Another thing to notice is that as the story begins at about mid day so the light source is very general - no deep shadowy areas except for under Steve's car. Yes, in the story it turned out to be the same time it was in real life with no conscious planning on my part. I was just drawing what came first to my mind with no time for filters. That's why it's so significant to my inner psycological state.

I used a silent panel at the end of the page to try to give a sense of timelessness so the drive would feel like a long uncomfortable one.
